Armed Carjacking Reported in Newark's North Ward; Others Robbed in the City

An armed carjacking at gunpoint that happened in the city's North Ward has police in Newark investigating.

Authorities are looking for a 2004 Kia with a reported NJ license plate number "M79-FMF" that was taken at gunpoint by a black male suspect shortly before 9:30 p.m.

According to the victim, the suspect approached with a weapon drawn when he demanded the vehicle.

There were physical injuries reported.

In a separate incident that happened in the city's South Ward, police responded to reports of an armed robbery at gunpoint that occurred in the 100 block of Renner Ave. shortly before 6 p.m.

Units arrived to the scene find a female victim who reported to cops that a male suspect approached with a gun and demanded her cell phone. The victim handed over the cell phone to the suspect shortly before he fled in an unknown direction. There were no physical injuries reported.

Finally, an early Wednesday morning robbery that happened in the city's downtown had officer search for a black male who was last seen wearing dark clothing when he snatched a chain from the neck of a female victim at around 11 a.m. near Broad and Market Street.

The victim was not injured and is reported to be a close relative of a Newark Police Sergeant.
