Police in Newark are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred in the city's North Ward on Saturday night.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of a carjacking in progress in the vicinity of 248 Montclair Avenue just before 11:55 p.m.
Units arriving at the scene put out a be on a lookout for a gray 2015 Nissan Sentra that was taken by a male suspect who was armed with a gun according to reports.
The vehicle has reported NJ license plate numbers "V24-JPZ".
The suspect reportedly assaulted the driver of the vehicle, but there were no serious injuries.
