And early afternoon armed carjacking in South Orange has police investigating.
The incident happened at around 2:20 p.m. in the area of South Orange Avenue and Center Street where police responded to the area after receiving reports of a carjacking in progress.
Arriving units located the the victim who reported to police that shortly before hey arrived, a black male suspect approached at gunpoint and demanded the victim's 2014 Jeep Cherokee, then sped away eastbound on South Orange Avenue.
Newark police spotted the vehicle on Springfield Avenue near the Wendy's where they began to follow according to reports.
The vehicle refused to stop for police and sped off reports said.
The vehicle was located minutes later abandoned in the 600 block of South 11th Street.
The suspect was only described as a tall thin black male who was last seen wearing grey clothing.
There were no physical injuries reported.
