A fugitive wanted in Arizona on drug and money laundering charges was arrested this morning on new drug charges at an East Orange residence by detectives from the United States Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that the task force, working on information from Arizona law enforcement authorities executed an arrest warrant for Eric Emanuel, 44, at a Carnegie Avenue home at 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
Officials said when the our officers arrived to the East Orange residence, Emanuel attempted to elude arrest by climbing into a crawl space above a bedroom and the front porch but he was quickly placed under arrest.
According to authorities, officers seized five pounds of marijuana with a street value of $25,000 and $3,900 in alleged drug proceeds was seized from his bathroom hamper.
As a result of today’s arrest, Emanuel was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet Ecole Toussaint L’overture Elementary School.
Officials said Emanuel was lodged at the county jail where he awaits a court date on today’s charges and pending extradition motions.
