Officials in Essex County are saying that residents experiencing brown water issues is a result of water main flushing.
The Township of Bloomfield Public Works and Parks issued the following statement earlier today:
"At this time, areas of Bloomfield are experiencing brown water due to system maintenance by our water supplier at their treatment plant. This is affecting Bloomfield and other towns in our region. Those who experience brown water should let their water run until it clears. It is recommended that if the water is visibly brown it should not be used for consumption or clothes washing. The water can be used for showering. We anticipate this problem being resolved within several hours."
Any resident with questions about the current water issue may contain the DPW at 973-680-4127.
Officials in Newark also issued a statement addressing similar issues throughout the city.
