A death that took place in Elizabeth early this morning is under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo announced Saturday.
Officials identified the deceased has as Oscar Melara, 28, of Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Police Department patrol units responding to a report of an altercation at Ben’s Bar on the 600 block of Meadow Street shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday morning found Melara there, having sustained injuries, according to the preliminary investigation.
Melara was transported to Trinitas Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
This matter remains under active joint investigation by members of the Prosecutor's Office, Elizabeth Police Department, and Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
