An Allentown man faces multiple charges following a shooting on New Year's Eve that left a woman injured, according to a statement released by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday. Officials said Daniel Williams, 52, has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The endangering charge relates to a child being present in the home during the incident.
The shooting occurred on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, around 12:51 p.m. when officers from the Allentown Police Department, supported by multiple law enforcement agencies, responded to a call on Johnson Drive.
Upon arrival, officers found a female victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. She was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
An investigation conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Allentown Police Department identified Williams as the suspect.
He was apprehended later that evening and taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, where he awaits his initial court appearance in Monmouth County Superior Court.
Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago and Allentown Police Chief Daniel Panckeri expressed gratitude for the cooperation of local residents, noting that a temporary shelter-in-place order was crucial to ensuring Williams' arrest without further incident. Authorities continue to seek information regarding the case.
