Allegedly Drunk Ewing Woman Accused of Striking, Killing Fort Lee Man with Car

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of Christine H. Ko, 22, of Ewing, who was charged with vehicular homicide.

On Sunday, May 29, at approximately 8:48 p.m., the Fort Lee Police Department received a report of a person struck by a motor vehicle on Lemoine Avenue in the area of Whiteman Street.

Upon responding to the scene, officers determined that KO, who was operating a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, had struck Ruben Enukashvili, an 86-year-old Fort Lee man, while he was crossing Lemoine Avenue.

As a result of injuries suffered during the collision, Enukashvili was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

A subsequent investigation by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office FAIU and the Fort Lee Police Department revealed that at approximately 8:48 p.m., Ko was operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol when she struck the pedestrian as he crossed Lemoine Avenue.

KO was charged with one count of violating N.J.S.A. 2C:11-5(3), vehicular homicide and issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless Driving, driving under the influence, and operating a motor vehicle with an open or unsealed alcoholic beverage container.

She was arraigned on Monday by Fort Lee Municipal Court Judge John DeSheplo and remanded to the Bergen County Jail Annex in lieu of bail set at $150,000 with a 10% cash option.
