Elizabeth

A North Arlington man accused of killing an Elizabeth dockworker in Elizabeth has been indicted, according to officials.

Authorities said Victor Belo , 48, of North Arlington, was under the influence of alcohol when he struck and killed a fellow dockworker - Judy Jones, 49, of Newark - just after 1 p.m., on Aug. 7, with a top loader, used to move shipping containers around the Elizabeth marine terminal.

Belo turned himself at the Union County Prosecutor's office, and was later freed after posting 10 percent of $75,000 bail in cash.

Earlier this month a Union County grand jury indicted Belo on a charge of vehicular homicide.

According to Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park, Belo's blood-alcohol level on the day of the incident was above the legal limit of .08.

The homicide charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison upon conviction.
