An alleged drug dealer was arrested last night by Essex County sheriff’s detectives and nearly $20,000 in ‘crack’ cocaine was recovered.
According to authorities, plainclothes officers from the department’s Bureau of Narcotics staged a surveillance operation Thursday evening near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Fuller Place in Irvington as part of on-going investigations into drug trafficking in the area.
Officials say at the location officers observed Quentin Mixson, 40, of Newark, exiting an apartment complex and carrying a black shopping bag. When officers announced their presence, Mixson threw the shopping bag to the ground and raised his hands in surrender. The bag contained 372 grams of cocaine and Mixson was in possession of $1,242 in suspected drug proceeds.
Police arrested and charged Mixson with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Burch Charter School.
According to officials, Mixson was lodged at the county jail where he awaits a bail hearing.
