The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for northern and northwest New Jersey, set to remain in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday night.

Higher snowfall amounts are expected in the western parts of the region, while eastern areas may see lighter accumulations.

Snow is anticipated to begin mid-morning Sunday and continue throughout the day, possibly tapering off in the early hours of Monday.

Local emergency management teams are coordinating closely with officials from the National Weather Service and utility companies, including Elizabethtown Gas, PSEG, and JCP&L, to monitor storm impacts and ensure a swift response.

Additionally, Morris County officials participated in a statewide briefing with New Jersey State Police Colonel Patrick Callahan and other emergency support agencies, pledging ongoing collaboration throughout the storm.

Authorities are urging residents to avoid calling 911 unless facing a true emergency, as dispatchers need to prioritize critical calls.

PDrivers are advised to monitor the weather and road conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly, as slick and hazardous roads are expected.

Those unprepared for winter driving should consider staying off the roads entirely.

"This could be the perfect opportunity to enjoy a relaxing Sunday at home," officials noted, encouraging residents to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel.

The Newark Police Department issued a reminder to assist vulnerable neighbors, including the elderly and those with mobility challenges, and to ensure the safety of pets.

Residents are also encouraged to clear snow from fire hydrants to aid firefighters in case of emergencies.

"Quick access to water during an emergency can make all the difference," Newark Police stated, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation during the storm.

With first responders and emergency operators on standby, officials are assuring residents that every effort is being made to support storm operations and keep the community safe.
