Police in Newark requests the public’s help identifying two male suspects, who carjacked a vehicle with an 11-year-old girl inside on July 21.
Officers responded to the incident, which took place around 5:15 p.m. in front of the T-Mobile store, located at 24 Jones Street.
Suspect #1 conspired with Suspect #2 to take the vehicle after the owner, who went into the store, left the vehicle running with her daughter in the backseat.
According to Police, suspect #1 walked past the store looking at the owner while Suspect # 2 entered the vehicle.
When the mother saw Suspect #2 enter her vehicle, she ran from the store and banged on the window as the suspect drove away southbound on Irvine Turner Boulevard.
Police say the suspect let the girl out of the vehicle two blocks away at Irvine Turner and West Kinney Street.
He fled east on West Kinney, and the vehicle was recovered in a parking lot in the 200 block of that street.
Suspect #1, a Black male with dreadlocks, was wearing a black sweater, grey shorts, and sandals.
Police said suspect #2, also a Black male, was wearing grey sweatpants and a black sweater.
NPD urges anyone with information about the suspects to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
