Authorities in Newark are investigating a burglary at the Redeemed Christian Church on South 18th Street, where a suspect made off with several toolboxes belonging to a construction company hired by the church.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., the theft occurred on January 17, and police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual involved.
The incident unfolded around 7 p.m. when the church’s pastor reportedly witnessed the suspect fleeing the building with the stolen items.
Upon inspecting the premises, the pastor discovered a damaged back door and noted the missing toolboxes.
The suspect is described as a Black male who was wearing dark clothing, including a green hoodie and a large coat, at the time of the incident.
Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the burglary to come forward.
Newark police emphasized the importance of community cooperation in resolving the case and preventing similar crimes in the area.
