Newark Police are now investigating a series of carjackings conducted by several armed and dangerous males that toured the city searching for victims to snatch away their vehicles while they were trying to make it home from the overnight snowstorm.
According to police officials, a 'be on the lookout' was issued to surrounding municipalities for 3-4male suspects who were outlined with a well planned and orchestrated scheme to box-in drivers while they exited their vehicle with guns drawn and ordered the victims out of the targeted car.
Police believe the suspects were occupying a gray 4-door 2009 Acura TL with a reported NJ license plate number "J18-JHD" which was occupied by three slim-build males who were wearing masks and armed with guns.
Authorities say in the first incident; suspects spotted a male who was reportedly returning to his vehicle when they rushed him with guns drawn then demanded his keys and personal possessions. The suspects then physically assaulted the man while also forcing a female passenger from the car.
Police say the suspects sped from the scene and are believed to be accompanied by a second vehicle occupied by additional suspects.
In another incident, suspects fitting the same description as the Stuyvesant Avenue males sought out a driver who attempted to make it home when the culprits boxed-in his vehicle near the 400 block of 13th Avenue then pointed weapons in his face; they demanded him out of the car.
Police say one of the suspects opened the passenger side door of the man's car and made off with the vehicle.
Authorities are looking for the victim's green Saturn Ion with a reported NJ license plate number, "YCB-59D". Police say the victim's phone and wallet was also taken.
According to police, at approximately 11:30 p.m., suspects armed with guns scoped out a female returning to her vehicle then pointed it at her, took a blue 2017 Kia Rio, and sped from the scene.
Police recovered the unoccupied vehicle in the 60's block of Woodland Avenue at around 11:45 p.m.
There were no severe injuries reported in any of the carjackings.
The suspects remain at-large.
