Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Newark officials are urging residents to prepare for a mix of snow, freezing rain, and sleet expected to impact the city early tomorrow morning, potentially leading to flooding in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall is expected to begin after 4 a.m., with accumulations of less than an inch.

As the morning progresses, the precipitation will transition into a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, and sleet before noon, followed by intermittent rain showers until around 3 p.m.

Another round of light snow and sleet may bring additional minor accumulations.

Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. is reminding residents to adhere to the city’s No Parking on Snow-Covered Roads regulations.

Signs marking these restricted areas have been posted throughout Newark, and motorists are strongly encouraged to check for them to avoid violations or towing.

In response to the incoming weather, Newark’s Department of Public Safety is mobilizing personnel from the police, fire, and emergency management departments to address potential hazards, including flooding, burglar alarms, and other weather-related emergencies.

Residents are advised to secure any loose outdoor items such as furniture, awnings, and construction materials to prevent damage.

Officials also stress fire safety precautions, urging residents to use flashlights instead of candles in the event of power outages. For non-emergency weather-related concerns, residents can contact the Department of Public Safety at 973-733-6000

In case of an emergency, dial 911 immediately.
