ALERT: Early Morning Crash on I-80 in Morris County Causes Major Delays, Injuries

UPDATE 5:07 a.m.: According to DOT cameras, much of the delay has been lifted, and traffic appears smooth on that portion of I-80. NinosNew Jersey State Police are investigating a serious early-morning crash that left at least one person injured and caused the temporary closure of a major highway in Morris County on Monday.

The collision occurred around 3 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-80 near mile marker 33.1 in Rockaway Township/Wharton.

Troopers and emergency responders arrived at the scene. They found a car had collided with a tractor-trailer, resulting in at least one person becoming trapped inside the vehicle with serious injuries.

A medivac helicopter was called to the scene to transport the injured individual to a nearby hospital for urgent care.

Traffic cameras from the NJ-511 Department of Transportation showed heavy delays on the highway at 4 a.m. as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the cause of the crash.

The New Jersey State Police are leading the investigation, which remains active at this time.
