Police in Newark are reporting that their Special Victims Section detectives are investigating a possible attempted child luring incident that occurred Wednesday.
According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, the mother of a 10-year-old girl reported that her daughter and two other friends were walking near Spruce Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., when they were approached by an unknown male who drove an older model 4-door, tan-colored sedan with a dent in the front passenger door.
Director Ambrose said the male, described as a light-skinned and in his mid-20s, attempted to convince the girls to enter his car and when the girls ran from the area, the driver of the car sped away, heading westbound on Spruce Street.
While police are actively searching for the suspect, Director Ambrose said they seek the public’s assistance in quickly locate him.
