Air Traffic Control Center Evacuated Due to Busted Water Pipe at EWR

Newark

The Federal Aviation Commission is investigating what caused a waterpipe to burst on Saturday evening in an air traffic control center at Newark International Airport.

According to preliminary reports, the air traffic control tower was briefly evacuated due to a busted water pipe just before 7 p.m.

Several controllers were relocated to another location which caused slight delays for takeoff and arriving aircraft.

Officials say utility and maintenance crews secured the water to the tower before extensive damage was done.

The incident remains under investigation.
