Police officers actively patrolling neighborhoods in Newark’s East Ward apprehended a suspect allegedly burglarizing a car during their tour.
According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, officers arrested Mr. Tyrone Street Jr., 22, of Newark, in connection with the burglary that occurred on Sunday, April 22, 2018.
Director Ambrose said, at approximately 1:25 p.m., police were in the area of New Jersey Railroad Avenue and Vesey Street when they observed a male in a red SUV.
Upon further investigation, they found that the male did not own the vehicle but was burglarizing it Director Ambrose said.
Police say they arrested Street without incident then released the car to the owner’s family member who was at the scene.
Police officially charged Street with burglary and contempt on an outstanding warrant.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
