The Newark and North Jersey region is facing a wet and potentially hazardous start to the weekend, with an AccuWeather alert in place due to an incoming storm set to drench the area.Residents can expect rainy conditions to persist throughout the day, leading to flooding and difficult road situations.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm, which will impact the region for the majority of the day, is expected to bring moderate rain in the morning and intensify to heavy rainfall by the afternoon and evening.
Today’s forecast includes rain and possible thunderstorms after 3 p.m., with some storms capable of producing significant downpours. Highs will be near 53 degrees, with an east wind blowing at 7 to 11 mph.
The likelihood of precipitation stands at 100%, with total rainfall amounts anticipated to be between 2 and 3 inches.While the rain is predicted to lighten by evening, NWS forecasters say it will leave behind considerable challenges, mainly before 9 p.m.
Overnight, expect mostly cloudy skies, lows around 30 degrees, and wind chill values dropping between 20 and 25. A blustery north wind will persist at 18 to 20 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 38 mph.
Residents are advised to make alternate dinner plans indoors and prepare for a messy aftermath lasting about 12 hours.
