Brooklyn Woman Struck, Killed in Sayreville

 

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief John Zebrowski of the Sayreville Park Police Department announced today that a 69-year old woman has died after being struck by a vehicle last night.

 

The deceased pedestrian who was identified as Janina Grzelczak, of Brooklyn, New York, was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy where she was pronounced dead at approximately 7:00 p.m.

 

The driver of the vehicle is a 34 year-old resident of the Parlin section of Sayreville. On November 17, 2017, he was driving a 2008 Ford Explorer on Washington Road when he struck the victim at approximately 6:14 p.m.

 

The police responded to a 911 call and found the victim lying in the roadway. The crash is being investigated by Sgt. John Bartlinski of the Sayreville Police Department and Detective Greg Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

 

During the investigation, it was determined that the driver was heading east on Washington Road in Sayreville, when he struck the victim as she attempted to cross the roadway midblock and not in the crosswalk.

The investigation is active and is continuing.
