Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Belleville Police Chief Joseph Rotonda announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Belleville Police are investigating the death of a 68-year-old Newark man whose body was found in a river in Belleville.
The cause and manner of death is pending autopsy.
Earlier today the man was found unresponsive in a creek, called the Second River, in the vicinity of 540 Mill Street in Belleville. His vehicle was located nearby. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is active and ongoing. No other information, including the identity of the man, is available at this time.
