Authorities identified a man who was fatally shot on Friday morning in Newark's South Ward.
According to a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, Philip Amsterdam, 49, of Orange was shot in the area of 16th Street and Madison Ave. shortly before 6:45 a.m.
The spokesperson said Amsterdam was transported to University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The investigation is active and on-going with no arrests made at this time.
NOTE: Amsterdam's fatal shooting is the second fatal shooting victim from Orange within a 24-hr period from each other.
The other victim, Naji Everett, 26, of Orange, was found fatally shot on Joyce Street in West Orange. The incidents area not reported to be connected at this time.
