4-Year-Old Left Unattended with Sibling, Crashes Car in Asbury Park

Asbury Park New Jersey

A 41-year-old man was arrested yesterday, after leaving his 4 and 2-year-olds unattended in a vehicle, which crashed into a brick stairway wall in Asbury Park.

Police responded to a single car collision on Rustic Drive where a car struck a building at approximately 10:27 a.m., police said.

Investigation revealed that the vehicle's owner, Tavaris Reevey, left his four-year-old son and his two-year-old daughter unattended in his running car. The son then climbed into the driver’s seat and put the car in reverse causing the vehicle to go back across the parking lot coming to a halt when it struck a brick stairway wall, police added.

Neither child was injured, according to police.

Reevey was placed under arrest at the scene and charged with one count of child endangerment. During the arrest it was learned that there was an active contempt of court warrant from the City of Asbury Park in the amount of $250.00.

Reevey was released on his own recognizance on the child endangerment charges and will appear at a future court hearing. Bail was posted on the Asbury Park warrant and he was given a future court hearing on the Asbury Park violation.

The two children were turned over to the care of their mother after the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency was notified.
