Branchburg Township, N.J. - Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson and Somerset County Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor announced an investigation of a pedestrian fatally struck by a motor vehicle on Monday night in Branchburg Township, New Jersey.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that at 7:41 p.m. the Branchburg Township Police Department received a 911 call reporting a pedestrian struck on Route 202 southbound in the area of Huyler Road.
It was later a confirmed that the pedestrian was struck attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Route 202.
The roadway was closed while a joint investigation was initiated by the Somerset Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) and the Branchburg Township Police Department.
The victim, who was identified as Branchburg resident Surinder Singh, 39, crossed the grass median and stepped into the path of a 2019 Acura operated by a Hillsborough Township resident.
Lifesaving measures were initiated by first responders. Mr. Singh was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset where he was pronounced deceased at 9:11 p.m.
The factors that contributed to the crash are currently under investigation.
