Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal shooting.
Authorities said at around 5 p.m. yesterday , Newark Police received a call of shots fired sending them to the 200 block of Muhammad Ali Avenue where officers discovered an unresponsive female suffering from what appeared to be multiple gun shot wounds.
The victim has been identified as Tabitha Y. Lee, 34, of Newark.
Lee was transported to University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5:54 p.m.
An investigation is underway.
