32-Year-Old Man Convicted in 2011 Camden Homicide

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported a Camden man was convicted on Wednesday for a 2011 Camden homicide.

A jury found Demarcus Drew, 34, guilty of passion provocation manslaughter in the shooting death of 46-year-old Marvin Simpson of Camden.

Assistant Prosecutor Peter Crawford presented evidence and witness testimony at trial proving Drew shot Simpson multiple times on the 1400 block of Rose Street shortly before 4:45 a.m. on November 4, 2011. The shooting is believed to have been the result of a romantic rivalry. Drew and Simpson were dating the same woman.

Drew was also convicted of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Drew faces up to 25 years in state prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 5.
