A 3-year-old girl is safe after she was found wandering on an Elizabeth street Sunday afternoon.
According to authorities, officers responded to the 600 block of South Broad Street at around 1:51 p.m. for a report of a wandering child.
Units arriving at the scene said two women, who were passing through the area, found the shirtless 3-year-old girl walking in the neighborhood when they escorted the child to their car where they then called the police.
EMS transported the girl to Beth Israel Hospital in Newark for an observation where officials contacted Child Protective Services to began an investigation.
According to police, the child's mother ultimately contacted police to report the girl missing shortly after the child was taken to the hospital.
The incident is under investigation at this time.
