Officials today announced the arrest
a 17-year-old male juvenile who was wanted for five separate robberies that began on Jan. 9th.
According to authorities, at 2:15 a.m., a man was carjacked in the 600-block of Highland Avenue. A male approached the victim’s vehicle as he exited and demanded his car keys while displaying a gun. Two other suspects stood by during the incident and fled on foot following the carjacking. The stolen vehicle is a black, 4-door 2017 Toyota Camry and was recovered in Rockaway Township.
Later that same day, at approximately 4:15 a.m., a woman was robbed by an armed suspect at Mt. Prospect and Verona avenues. Another woman was robbed at 4:20 a.m. in the area of Forest Hill Parkway and Grafton Avenue, and a male victim was also robbed at Montclair Avenue and Manchester Place at 4:40 a.m. on Jan. 9th.
Police said that on Jan. 10th, at 4:40 a.m., two women were robbed at gunpoint in the area of Mt. Prospect and Verona avenues. The suspect robbed both victims after exiting a 4-door, burgundy-colored Dodge Durango SUV. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Rockaway Township.
On that same day, at approximately 11:15 p.m. that night, police patrolling the area of Chadwick and Madison avenues observed a speeding red Dodge Durango and confirmed it as the stolen vehicle out of Rockaway. Officers attempted a motor vehicle stop, but the driver ignored commands to pull over. The vehicle fled onto Schuyler Avenue and two male juveniles and a female juvenile exited the vehicle and fled on foot, but were immediately apprehended. Police also observed a handgun inside the vehicle.
Police charged the two male juveniles with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.
In addition, one of the juveniles faces additional charges of Carjacking, Aggravated Assault and Resisting Arrest.
The other male juvenile, who was driving the stolen vehicle, has been also charged with Eluding.
Police charged the female juvenile with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Detectives took the third suspect, a male juvenile who remained at large, into custody today without incident.
These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
