The Linden Police Department announced that a 14-year-old teen was arrested in connection to social media posts involving unspecified threats by a clown.
According to police, on Oct. 3rd, 2016 at approximately 6:41 p.m. the Linden Police Department was alerted to a suspicious posting on Instagram.
The posting featured one photo of a clown sitting on a swing with the caption "I’m taking and killing teachers and kids just like I did this morning September 30 following that girl."
A three month investigation, led by Linden Juvenile Det. Keith Milos, concluded this morning when a 14-year- old boy was arrested for making the post.
Complaints for 3rd-degree terroristic threats and creating false public alarm were signed against the juvenile, whose name is not being released because of his age. He was released to parents pending an appearance in juvenile court.
“We work very hard to ensure our schools remain a safe environment for our children, and we take any threat to them very seriously.” said Det./Lt. Airan Fernandez, Commander of the Linden Police Juvenile Bureau.
Fernandez also praised the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and the Union County High Tech Crime Unit, who provided critical assistance and resources throughout the investigation.
