13-Year-Old Newark Female Among Two Arrested for Theft of Irvington Vehicle

Newark Police recovered a handgun and arrested a 16-year old male and a 13-year old female, both from Newark, today for auto theft.

According to a press release sent by authorities, at approximately 1:45 a.m., officers patrolling the area of Broad Street and Lincoln Park observed a 1999 silver Mitsubishi traveling in the wrong direction at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Irvington, spun out of control and crashed into a parked vehicle police said.

The driver of the stolen vehicle and its two occupants fled on foot following the crash.

Police said officers chased down and arrested two of the suspects while the third suspect remains at large.

The 16-year old is charged with Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

The 13-year old is charged with Receiving Stolen Property.

The suspects' identity could not be released because of their ages.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
