Jersey City Police are investigating a shooting that left a child suffering a gunshot wound in Jersey City on Sunday.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of shots fired that erupted inside the Marion Gardens apartment on Dales Avenue sending police to the scene where they found an 11-year-old boy struck by gunfire.
Police officials say that two children were playing with a gun when the weapon went off striking the boy.
Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione confirmed that the two children were taken into custody after they were "playing with a handgun" that "accidentally discharged" in the apartment. Police found the weapon inside the apartment.
There were no other serious injuries reported.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
