Roselle Shooting Leaves Two Injured, One With Multiple Wounds

Roselle

A barrage of bullets Sunday afternoon left two men injured in Roselle, police said this afternoon.

Roselle police responded to a report of multiple shots fired on the 300 block of E. 9th Avenue at approximately 3:44 p.m. Sunday afternoon.  Upon arrival, the officers found two victims who had been shot during the incident, Lt. Bill Brennan said. One of the victims, identified as Latrelle Small, 29, of Rahway, was shot multiple times and transported to the Trauma Center at University Hospital where he underwent surgery. The other victim, 26-year-old Ibn Ali of Newark, sustained a single gunshot wound to his buttocks.  Ali was also transported to University Hospital where he was treated and released.

The shooter, an unidentified black male, fled the area prior to police arrival, Brennan said.

A search of the scene by the Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit revealed that a two-family residence on that block had been struck by multiple rounds along with two vehicles, a 2005 Nissan Maxima and a 2002 Nissan Xterra that were parked in the area. Multiple shell casing and discharged bullets were recovered at the scene. The ballistics evidence will be submitted to the Union County Police Department Firearms Identification Unit for examination and entry into the national Integrated Ballistics Identification System database for comparison to other shooting incidents, the lieutenant added. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Detective Craig Howlett at (908) 245-9200.  All calls will be kept confidential.
