Police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead in a South Ward neighborhood in Newark overnight. Police responded to shots fired calls in the area of Avon Ave. and Ridgewood Ave. around 12:25 a.m.
When police arrived to the scene, they found a man inside the vehicle suffering from an apparent fatal gunshot wound.
An extensive crime scene was established in the area and investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor's are handling the homicide.
