An early morning shooting has left Newark police working to piece together the details/circumstances of the incident Sunday morning.

Around 3:15 a.m., several ShotSpotter devices activated, indicating gunfire in the vicinity of East Kinney, South Street, and Pennington Court, prompting a swift response from Newark East Ward Officers.

Several residents in the area reported hearing about 7-8 rounds of gunfire erupting in the area. Upon arrival, officers immediately began canvassing the neighborhoods in search of potential victims.

Shortly after, they discovered a woman with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her foot.

Surprisingly, she was located in Irvington Township, near 9 Coit Street, and had apparently been transported there by private vehicle.

The injured woman informed police that the shooting occurred on Scott Street near Mulberry, providing a lead for investigators.

However, the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under active and ongoing investigation.

No arrests have been reported, and Newark authorities are diligently working to uncover more information about this early morning shooting.
