WIFE-PRENEUR WISDOM: We're A Powerful Helper

New Jersey

By: O.L./Sway Buckley

Genesis 2:18, having made the man sometime before the woman, God said, ''It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.'' That ''suitable helper'' was Eve, the first woman.

Lately, I've been intrigued by what it means to be a woman. Growing up, I've had my views shaped by those around me, never truly grasping the unique set-apart power a woman has with her husband.

I've seen a few talks recently addressing the role of the wife as a ''helper.'' I've heard it before but never given much thought to it, so my understanding has surfaced until now.

Marriedpreneur LifeBut my interest has been piqued.

Because I'm a woman.

It's embedded into my identity.

The recent talks I've heard about womanhood have me thinking more deeply about my role and innate purpose as a wife.

So, when the woman was created, she was created to be a ''helper.'' It's a part of her DNA.

As a wife, that focus is directed to the most important human relationship she has, her husband. But ''helper'' is not to be confused as a weak, flimsy, can-do-without-it kind of helper.

In fact, the other time 'helper' is used like this in Scripture is when referring to the Holy Spirit (who helps those who believe) in daily living. As Christians, we can't live as we ought to without our Helper.

Now, back to the woman/wife in this situation. She is her husband's helper because he needs her help (not as a less significant being, but as her equal, just with different roles).

Marriedpreneur Podcast(Note: This doesn't take away from what she is capable of doing with his help as well).

No one needs help from someone who doesn't have the wisdom, insight, or capacity to help. She has something unique that her husband wasn't given until he found her. Help.

So, when we see our husband struggling to understand, carry a load, and multi-task a solution, and we can get it done in our sleep- that's the kind of helper he needs that fits perfectly together.

Only God can do that.

As wives, let's not resent what we can do with ease that may cause him to struggle, but instead, let's be that powerful, wise helper and build something beautiful.
