A transformer explosion that caused vehicles to burn and residents losing power for several hours had firefighters on the scene early Saturday morning.
According to Newark Department of Public Safety officials, the transformer exploded at 194 Vassar Avenue causing wires to fall on a car then ignite it into flames.
Firefighters responded to the scene and confirmed that a second vehicle caught fire and crews evacuated residents from 194 Vassar Avenue for safety concerns officials said.
The fire was brought under control in under an hour.
There were no injuries reported.
