Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes reported that on October 1, 2023, around 9:22 p.m., a Paterson Police Officer reported hearing multiple gunshots in the vicinity of Van Houten Street and Cianci Street.
Following this report, officials said additional patrol units were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered a victim, identified as Ms. Mary Tavlor of Paterson, with an apparent gunshot wound.
According to The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, Taylor was swiftly transported to St. Joseph's University Medical Center, where she was tragically pronounced deceased earlier Monday.
The suspect reportedly pulled up in a car and began firing in Taylor's direction. It is not clear if she was the intended target.
Prosecutor Valdes said the investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.
