Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a shooting incident in which five people were shot, one fatally.
Newark Police responded to the 100 block of Brunswick Street last night at 10:45 pm and located three shooting victims. An additional two shooting victims arrived at the hospital traveling in their own vehicles.
One of the victims, Bashir Edwards, 29, of Newark was pronounced dead at University Hospital.
The investigation is active and ongoing. At this time the motive is unclear.
No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made.
