Residents in certain areas in North Jersey are experiencing the effects of unhealthy air quality today, as the lingering smoke from last night's fireworks displays continues to impact the region.

National Weather Service officials said the combination of smoke and humidity has trapped pollutants in the air, leading to compromised air quality. However, as the morning progresses, air quality will gradually improve.

In addition to the air quality concerns, NWS forecasters say today's weather brings significant heat and humidity. With mostly sunny skies, temperatures are set to reach a high near 91 degrees.

When factoring in the humidity, the heat index values could soar as high as 95 degrees.

Currently, the humidity stands at 84%, and the wind is calm, with a gentle northward breeze at 3 mph.

These conditions contribute to the sticky and uncomfortable feeling in the atmosphere. In fact, at 4:50 a.m., temperatures are already at 75 degrees, emphasizing the sticky conditions awaiting residents as they step out the door this morning.

According to NWS meteorologist, as the day progresses, the gentle north wind is expected to shift towards the south, reaching a speed of around 5 mph in the afternoon.

This slight breeze may provide some relief from the oppressive heat, albeit minimal.
