Police arrested a man and a woman then charged both of them with assault after the pair engaged in a physical altercation inside an apartment building in Newark’s lower West Ward Saturday morning.
It happened around 4:50 a.m. in one of the Georgia King Village Towers on Market Street.
Police responded to security calls of a man stabbed inside the building. Upon arrival, police found an emotionally distressed woman suffering scratch marks on her neck who told them that a male she had fought fled the scene.
Police canvassed several blocks and ultimately caught up with the man in the 40’s block of 11th Avenue who suffered slash wounds.
The suspect reportedly told officers that the woman attacked him.
Both parties were transported to University Hospital for treatment then released to Newark Police.
The incident remains under investigation.
