Firefighters in Garwood responded to a trailer fire behind the North Avenue ShopRite on Saturday afternoon, prompting a brief evacuation of the store. According to reports, the incident began around 3:35 p.m. when smoke from a fire behind the supermarket began to drift into the building, prompting store management to evacuate shoppers and employees for safety. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a trailer with no cab attached, engulfed in flames. Crews quickly worked to knock down the fire and determined that it had spread from an outdoor source to the trailer. Fortunately, the flames did not reach the main store. By shortly after 4:30 p.m., shoppers were allowed back inside to continue shopping. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
