Police are investigating separate shootings in Elizabeth that happened less than an hour apart leaving two people dead this evening.
Police responded to the 200 block of Third Street for a report of shots fired at approximately 10:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, police found one victim shot and seriously injured. The victim was rushed to Trinitas Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Shortly after (approximately 10:45 p.m.), gunfire rang out in the area of Cherry and West Jersey Streets sending police rushing to the scene where another person was shot.
The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.
Authorities have taped off two crime scenes and are investigating.
Names and circumstances surrounding the shooting has not been released.
Authorities said that the shootings are not related.
