A member of the notorious Rollin' 60s Neighborhood Crips gang, known by aliases "Bands" and "G Bandz," has admitted to his involvement in a racketeering conspiracy.
The announcement was made today by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger, shedding light on a case that underscores the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime.
Federal officials said Tre Byrd, 22, entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton on October 3, 2023, admitting to his role in a racketeering conspiracy as charged in a superseding indictment that included Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Byrd's involvement with the Rollin' 60s Neighborhood Crips spanned from 2015 through September 22, 2022.
During this period, the gang operated as a criminal enterprise, responsible for acts of violence and the distribution of controlled substances not only within the District of New Jersey but also beyond its borders.
One particularly disturbing incident detailed in the case involved Byrd collaborating with other gang members and associates in the murder of a rival gang member.
The victim was fatally shot on March 20, 2019, in Irvington.
In another alarming event, on June 20, 2020, Byrd and at least one other gang member and associate robbed an individual at gunpoint in Newark.
The gravity of the charges Byrd faces is substantial. He could potentially be sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of up to $250,000.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 7, 2024, marking a significant milestone in this legal saga.
