Victims Rescued From Fire in Elizabeth Succumbed to Injuries

Despite firefighters efforts to rescue two resident from a fast moving fire in Elizabeth last night, both victims succumbed to their injuries this morning.

Firefighters responded to the 1100 block of Fairmount Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. for a report of heavy flames coming from the home.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire on the second floor which quickly spread to the home’s attic.  Firefighters performing initial search found a male and female inside the home.  

Both victims were transported to Trinitas Hospital in unknown condition last night, according to McNamara.

McNamara said today both unidentified victims passed away.

The chief added that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
