Police Arrest Carjacking Suspect in New Brunswick

Police said a suspect has been arrested in connection with a carjacking that occurred in the early morning hours of March 11th on Hamilton Street near Harvey Street.

According to police at approximately 2:40 pm, New Brunswick police detectives arrested Mr. Bryan Gomez, 30, from New Brunswick in the area of Sandford Street and Comstock Street.

Police say Gomez is charged with Carjacking, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose and Terroristic Threats.

Investigating detectives determined that at approximately 6:00 am, Bryan Gomez approached a parked vehicle occupied by an adult male victim, displayed a handgun and demanded the occupant exit the vehicle.

Bryan Gomez took personal property belonging to the victim and then fled in the victim’s vehicle.  No injuries were sustained as a result of the altercation.

According to police, the victim’s vehicle was recovered several hours later by New Brunswick officers in another part of the city. 

Bryan Gomez is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending a pretrial detention hearing in Superior Court.  

As with any criminal investigation, the charges against Gomez are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
