A 30-year-old Pleasantville man was sentenced Friday for the 2012 sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced this afternoon.
Orlando J. Camacho, 30, of Pleasantville was sentenced Friday, Oct. 17. 2014, by Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Bernard E. DeLury to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison for the July 4, 2012 sexual assault of a 13-year-old female.
On July 5, 2012, Atlantic City Police responded to the Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, where the victim had been brought after reporting to her grandmother that she had been sexually assaulted the night before while sleeping overnight at a relative’s home. The child was treated and examined at the hospital by a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) nurse, and she identified her attacker for police.
Police arrested Camacho the same day on charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility in default of $300,000 cash bail set by Atlantic County Superior Court Judge James Isman Camacho was subsequently indicted on the charges, and pled guilty before Judge DeLury on March 17, 2014.
Friday, in accordance with a plea agreement, Judge DeLury sentenced Orlando J. Camacho to 5 years of incarceration in New Jersey State Prison. Pursuant to the No Early Release Act (NERA), Camacho must serve 85% of the sentence—4 years and 3 months—before becoming eligible for parole.
The judge further ordered:
- Parole supervision for life after Camacho’s release from prison,
- Megan’s Law registration, and
- The issuance of a Nicole’s Law Restraining Order, prohibiting Camacho from contact with the victim, her mother, and grandmother.
Assistant Prosecutor John Flammer represented the State in the case.
