Scotch Plains Newark Roselle

The victims of a deadly crash on Route 22 in Scotch Plains Saturday night, have been identified as a 19-year-old Newark man and 20-year-old Roselle man.

First responders from several towns rushed to Route 22 and Westfield Road 9:45 p.m. where a 2002 BMW 3 vehicle drove of the road, skidded on its side and collided with a tree, heavily trapping three occupants inside.

Erick Pires, 19, of Newark, and front seat passenger Andre Timoteo, 20, of Roselle were pronounced dead at the scene, police announced today.

The third occupant, a 26-year-old man from Newark, was airlifted to Morristown Hospital after suffering head trauma. He is presently listed in stable but critical condition, police said.

Police closed traffic on the highway in both directions until about 1:30 a.m.

Preliminary investigations indicate that no other vehicles were involved in the crash and wet road conditions and speed were the contributing factors to this accident, according to police statement.

The accident is still under investigation by the Scotch Plains Police.
