Residents in one of Newark's West Ward neighborhoods witnessed a tense moment Sunday night when shots were fired, prompting an immediate response from police.FitnessThe incident, occurring in the vicinity of 10 Ivy Street just before 8:30 p.m., left one person wounded.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unidentified individual suffering from a gunshot wound.

An investigation enabled police to detain a possible suspect believed to be the shooter. The scene was secured, with police cordoning off the area and uncovering additional shell casings on Ivy Street.

A second ShotSpotter device was activated near 14 Alexander Street, but police believe these incidents are connected.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

The condition of the victim has only been classified as non-fatal. However, the shooting has triggered a broader investigation as police work to ascertain the motive behind the altercation.
