Newark Police are reporting the arrest of Mr. Rahmon N. Johnson, 21, of Newark, in connection with a fifth domestic violence incident against the same victim.
“I commend the detectives of Special Victims Unit for their quick actions in removing this armed suspect from our streets,” Director Ambrose said. “We will not tolerate violence in our neighborhoods and domestic violence is just as unacceptable as any other crime within our community.”
Police say the victim, a woman, was assaulted in the South Ward on Monday, May 27th.
According to police the suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and threatened her life after assaulting her. Detectives investigating this incident identified Rahmon N. Johnson as a suspect in this, his fifth domestic violence incident with this victim.
Yesterday, detectives observed Johnson in the 200-block of Clinton Avenue, where he was found in possession of a loaded .380 caliber handgun.
He was immediately arrested and is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and terroristic threats.
These charges are merely accusations.
This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
